Kessingland is situated a few miles south of Lowestoft and is of great interest to archaeologists.
There has been a settlement in this area since prehistoric times with rudimentary stone implements from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic eras discovered here, as well as fossils from extinct mammals. It is the most northern part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Kessingland is now popular with holidaymakers, with the beach designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is also home to Africa Alive, the well-known local African-themed wildlife park.
